Day 1: Transfer/drive from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park.

Your 4 Days Gorillas And Golden Monkey Trekking Tour will start with a pick-up from your place of residence/ hotel or upon arrival at Kigali International Airport. After meeting and greeting, you then take the drive to Volcanoes National Park.

Depending on the time of arrival you may visit a few historical and traditional sites on a short Kigali city tour with a visit to places like the Kigali Genocide Memorial. After the city tour, you have lunch and then embark on the drive North West of Rwanda to Volcanoes National Park.

If you are coming in from the neighboring countries on a road drive, you will drive to the park directly. The drive lasts about 2 hours as you go past the picturesque backdrop of Rwanda’s thousands of hills. By evening, you arrive at the park and check in to a booked lodging facility.

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Gorilla Trekking Rwanda – Meeting silverback Agashya

On day two after breakfast at your hotel, your allocated driver-guide picks you up for a drive to the Volcanoes park headquarters. On arrival at the park headquarters, you start with a Gorilla trekking briefing by the park rangers on the dos and don’ts of Gorilla trekking in Rwanda.

During the briefing, you are allocated a Gorilla family that you track with 7 other individuals alongside park guides. From the park headquarters, you go through the bamboo forest in search of the Mountain Gorillas.

Gorilla trekking may take about 2-4 hours to and from depending on where the Gorillas spent their previous night. However, only 1 hour (60 minutes) can be spent in the presence of the Mountain Gorillas.

After 1 hour in the presence of a Gorilla family, you trek back to the park headquarters where you meet the tour guide for a transfer to your hotel or lodge where you relax and spend the night where you spent the night the previous day.

Day 3: Golden Monkey trekking and visiting the Dian Fossey tomb

After breakfast on the third day, you will return to Volcanoes National Park for Golden monkey trekking. Golden monkeys are much more playful and offer more dramatic sightings rather than Mountain Gorillas. The Golden monkey trekking is such a unique primate tracking experience as you watch the Golden monkeys patched with a black leap across the bamboo forest.

After the Golden monkey experience, you hike to the Karisoke center to visit the Dian Fossey tomb. A visit to the Dian Fossey tombs are a kind of memorial visit to Dian Fossey who was the first primatologist to focus on Mountain Gorillas. She lost her life to poachers while at Volcanoes National Park and was buried there just next to her favorite Gorilla.

After this amazing experience, you return to the park headquarters for a transfer to the hotel. At your hotel, you relax and have dinner at a place where you, later on, spend the night.
