The 4 Days Bwindi Gorilla Habituation Experience & Lake Bunyonyi visit is the best way of spending more time with Gorillas and later on relaxing at Lake Bunyonyi for an amazing adventure. Gorilla habituation offers a 4 hours experience among a group of Wild Gorillas that are not yet fully habituated within the Rushaga sector.

Mountain gorillas in Bwindi forest are first habituated before they are introduced to Gorilla trekking tourists. The gorilla habituation process where Wild Gorillas are tamed to get used to human presence takes about two to three years. After habituation the Gorillas are tamed and can behave “normally” in the presence of a trekking group.

All habitats with Mountain Gorillas have fully habituated Gorillas unlike Bwindi Impenetrable National Park that has groups that are not fully habituated and therefore tourists can join for the habituation experience. Conservationists, researchers and rangers will take you through the habituation process.

A maximum of 4 hours spent in the presence of the Mountain Gorillas during habituation. This means more time with the Gorillas than trekking that offers maximum 1 hour. During this process, individuals get to know much more about Mountain Gorillas, behaviors and a lot about their lifestyle.

From Bwindi forest, you will head to Lake Bunyonyi where you relax and have a lot of fun in the deepest lake. Activities that you can do here include zip lining across the lake, a visit to one of the most historic islands or even swim in the water since it is bilharzia and crocodile free. Lake Bunyonyi has very scenic views that you will sight before returning to Kampala.

Day 1: Transfer by road from Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

On day one of your safari to Bwindi, an allocated tour guide from Kabira Gorilla Safaris Tours will be at your place of residence or hotel for pick up. When he or she arrives and introduces themselves to you, then you will board your safari vehicle for the drive to Bwindi forest. The drive starts early in the morning.

Before crossing the equator line just about 80 Km from Kampala you will stop at the equator for about 30 minutes for photography as well as some geographical experiments at the world’s center line.

The drive continued southwards with lunch at a restaurant in Mbarara town. Arrival at a booked accommodation facility will be in the evening. Check in and have dinner at the hotel where you spend the night.

Day 2: Bwindi Gorilla habituation in the Rushaga sector

Wake up very early on this day of your habituation experience, have breakfast at the hotel and carry packed lunch. Your driver guide will ensure the drive to the Rushaga sector headquarter. Here you receive a briefing on the dos and don’ts of Gorilla habituation in Bwindi.

You then head to the jungle to meet the gorilla family that you will watch for four hours. During this time the rangers will tell you a lot about the group. After the 4 hour on habituation experience, you then trek back to the park headquarters where you meet the guide for return to your hotel.

You stay at the previous hotel where you relax and have dinner.

Day 3: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi and do activities of your choice

The Beauty of the Mightiest Lake Bunyonyi

At your hotel, you will be served breakfast in the morning that you have and get ready for the drive to Lake Bunyonyi. Drive lasts about 2-3 hours from Bwindi to Lake Bunyonyi. When you arrive at Lake Bunyonyi where you will undertake activities that you desire to and requested during the time of booking.

Adventure activities to do at Lake Bunyonyi include zip lining across the lake (for persons below 130 Kgs), and visit the historical islands on the lake that hold a lot about the traditions of the people who lived in this area. If you love to swim then, take a dive and swim in the deepest lake in Uganda with fresh waters and bilharzia free.

Avid birders can also take this opportunity to watch the many birds around the lake. The word “Bunyonyi” is from the local dialect and refers to small birds. It was named so because of the many small birds around. In the evening, retire to one of the lodges around the lake or in Kisoro town.
