Behind The Scene Experience in Rwanda And Uganda Itinerary
You will have the chance to visit Akagera National Park on this personalized, one-on-one trip, where park staff will inform you about the inspiring work they are doing with African Parks. Enjoy the classic African beauty while sailing on Lake Ihema.
At Karenga Bush Camp, two of the nights will be spent in the park. Enjoy a 2-hour “Walk the Line” excursion while you are stationed there. The ranger who is with you during this exercise will discuss the conservation efforts being made to protect animals, anti-poaching efforts, and the methods being used to lessen conflict between humans and wildlife.
From Akagera, travel north via Rwanda and Uganda in your own private, luxurious 4-wheel drive vehicle with your devoted, knowledgeable, and experienced driver-guide. From there, drive to the stunning Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for an overnight stay. Here, visitors are invited to engage in conversation with the local Batwa population through an interpreter as they tour the Batwa Settlement.
You’ll also be transported to search for the Golden monkeys, stroll through the strange and beautiful Kisozi Caldera, and go on a little canoe excursion through lovely. Mutanda Lake. This day gives you the chance to discover a unique and rarely visited area in rural southwest Uganda.
You begin your exciting journey at the Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park by viewing a habituated family group of Mountain gorillas. The cost of the tour includes one gorilla permit per person. You have the option of going on a second gorilla adventure or hiking to the top of the world. Following your stay at Nkuringo, your driver-guide will transport you back to Kigali, from which you may catch a flight home after an amazing vacation.
Itinerary: Behind The Scene Experience
Day 1: Take to the skies: UK/USA (selected airports) – Kigali
Take an early-morning KLM flight to Kigali via Amsterdam from London Heathrow or a few other UK airports. You arrive there in the evening. Your knowledgeable, courteous, and fluent English-speaking driver-guide will meet you at the airport and transport you to the Heaven Boutique Hotel where you will spend the night.
Day 2: Head for the bush – Akagera National Park

After breakfast, depart for the southern region of Akagera National Park in Kigali, where one of the rangers will give you an interesting “Behind the Scenes” discussion. Learn about the history of Akagera, the wildlife relocation programs (which included the relocation of African lions and Black rhinos), and the 2010 management takeover by African Parks, which has done outstanding work in making this park, the only “big five” protected area in Rwanda, into the success story that it is today. Take a boat ride on the beautiful Lake Ihema in the afternoon, where there are lots of birds, hippos, and crocs to see. You will spend tonight at the well regarded Ruzizi Tented Lodge, which includes all meals.
Day 3: Getting to know Akagera National Park
After breakfast, guests head north to Karenga Bush Camp, which is now open most of the year besides April and November. (Summer of rain). Numerous animals should be visible during the drive, including antelopes like Sable, Roan, Oribi, Bushbuck, Reedbuck, and Topi, as well as African elephants, Cape buffalo, giraffes, and giraffes. From the summit of the mountain, take in the expansive views of Tanzania and Lake Ihema. Spend two nights and receive all meals at Karenge Bush Camp.
Day 4: Akagera – how it all works
While out on a wildlife drive this morning, you might encounter the elusive African leopard, as we did during our last inspection visit. An expedition called “Walk the Line” will be led by a ranger in the afternoon. You follow the fence around the park’s perimeter as you travel the 7 km (approximately 2 hours) of hills. You’ll discover how park employees protect animals and what safeguards are in place to lessen friction between people and wildlife. You may take in breathtaking views of the national park from the ridge’s summit, which is where you must hike. All meals served during the night in the Karenge Bush Camp.
Day 5: Crossing over into Uganda – Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
After breakfast, depart for the Rwanda/Uganda border. From there, climb to the top of the breathtakingly beautiful Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for an overnight stay in the wonderfully cozy Mount Gahinga Lodge, which includes all meals. You’ll be given a genuine introduction to the local Batwa community this afternoon. Visitors are welcome to engage in conversation with the Batwa, which can be a very poignant experience, with the help of a mediator between the lodge administration and the Batwa community and a translator. The encounter isn’t scripted, and you may frequently anticipate blunt responses to difficult queries.
Day 6: Rural Uganda at its best: Lake Mutanda
Set out to see the rare Golden monkeys, who prefer bamboo groves in their rainforest environment, after breakfast. After that, proceed to the Kisozi Caldera and take a stroll there. After that, take a little canoe excursion on the idyllic Lake Mutanda. Continue your journey to Nkuringo in the southern Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for three nights at the cozy and excellently run Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge, which includes all meals.
Day 7: Gorilla Trekking

After an early breakfast, you’ll be taken to the park office for your briefing on conduct during Gorilla tracking. Set off with scouts and porters to seek one of the resident, habituated family groups of Mountain gorilla are. Your golden hour with these incredible primates is something you’ll cherish for the rest of your life – something with which very few wildlife experiences can compare.
Day 8: Optional second Gorilla trek, OR, Gorilla Habituation
Today, you have three excellent options to pick from: There are three options available to you: a second gorilla trek, the 4-hour gorilla habitat experience, or the breathtaking “Top of the World” rainforest walk in the Nkuringo sector of Bwindi. If you decide to do a second gorilla trek, please let us know as far in advance as you can because demand often outweighs supply. You can enjoy additional breathtaking views and search for a variety of little rainforest animals throughout your walk.
Day 9: Back to Kigali for the flight home
Travel from Bwindi this morning to picturesque Lake Mutanda, where you may have a leisurely early lunch at the Chameleon Hill Lodge. After crossing the border between Uganda and Rwanda, you will be driven south to the Kigali Airport in time to check in for the KLM aircraft that will take off tonight for London Heathrow (or a few other UK airports) via Amsterdam/USA.
