Day-By-Day Itinerary: Tanzania Family Safari

Day 1: Arrive Arusha, Tanzania

The tour commences at Kilimanjaro International Airport. The package encompasses transportation services from Kilimanjaro International Airport to Meliá Arusha, located in the city of Arusha. The newly established luxury resort boasts a prime location in close proximity to a traditional coffee farm. The commencement of your family’s African safari expedition is scheduled for the morning.

Day 2: First game drive, Arusha National Park

Exciting opportunities lie ahead for our family safari expedition. To commence the day, participants are invited to partake in a comprehensive game drive led by a knowledgeable guide within Arusha National Park. This excursion marks the initial of several similar outings throughout the voyage, with the primary objective being the observation of various wildlife species, including the elegant giraffes, lively baboons, vibrant flamingoes, and formidable buffalo. In the afternoon, guests are invited to return to the hotel to have some leisure time before attending a welcome reception and dinner, which will include various exciting elements.

Day 3: Tarangire, where legends say life began

Today, we shall proceed to Tarangire National Park, a location that holds significant cultural and historical importance, as per the Maasai narrative, which attributes it as the birthplace of life. This park has also gained recognition by its portrayal in numerous cinematic productions centered around the African continent. One cannot help but be captivated by the timeless beauty of the African savannah, characterized by its expansive landscape and abundant fauna, interspersed with the majestic presence of baobab trees. Join us in our open-topped safari vehicles for an afternoon game drive, where we will have the opportunity to observe large feline predators resting beneath baobab trees or witness elephants engaging in refreshing activities at a watering hole. Day 4: Game drives in the African bush


SAFARI in Tanzania was NOT what I expected! (Tarangire & Serengeti)

An up-close look at wildlife in Tarangire today begins with a morning game drive to Silale Swamp. After returning to the lodge for lunch and and some hands-on learning of Maasai crafts, head back out into the bush for an afternoon game drive and even more experiences guaranteed to create shared memories that will last lifetimes. Following dinner back at camp, learn some Swahili around the campfire, perhaps including such words as jambo (hello), kwa heri (goodbye), simba (lion) and ninafurahia (I am having a great time)!

Day 5: A village school, Lake Manyara & a Maasai boma

Today, you should go to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. On the way, you’ll stop for lunch at Lake Manyara National Park, which is a paradise for birdwatchers. You’ll also meet the students and teacher at a new primary school that Tauck is helping to build, and you’ll visit a Maasai boma, which is a traditional hut village where Maasai cultural traditions are kept alive. Late in the afternoon, you’ll arrive at your colonial lodge in Karatu. For the next two nights, you’ll stay in cottages that look out over a coffee farm and the eastern wall of the amazing Ngorongoro Crater.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater, Africa’s “Garden of Eden”

The ancient Ngorongoro Crater, which is often called Africa’s “Garden of Eden,” is one of the best places on this Africa tour to see the Big Five – elephants, leopards, lions, buffalo, and the rare black rhinoceros. It is home to almost every species in Africa, except the giraffe, which can’t get down the steep slope into the caldera. There are many chances to see lions, cheetahs, hippos, and lots of birds during game drives and a unique picnic lunch on the crater floor. Then you’ll go back to your Karatu lodge for the night.

Day 7: Fly to the Serengeti

Today, you’ll leave Tloma Lodge and take a morning flight from Lake Manyara to the Seronera airstrip in Serengeti National Park. As you do this, you will fly over Oldupai Gorge, where archaeologists Louis and Mary Leakey found the fossilized remains of some of the oldest known human species, which are thought to be 1.8 million years old. Late in the morning, you will arrive at the Meliá Serengeti Lodge, where you will stay for three nights in the middle of the Serengeti fields. After lunch, go on a game drive in Serengeti National Park in the late afternoon to look for animals that live there. You might see lions, antelopes, elephants, and zebras going about their daily lives. When you get back to camp, you’ll get a lesson on the hot air balloon ride across the Serengeti the next day, and then you’ll have dinner at the lodge.

Day 8: Ballooning over the Serengeti & more


SERENGETI BALLOON SAFARI An unforgettable experience in TANZANIA

Rise early and take a hot air balloon ride over the vast Serengeti fields to see the landscape and wildlife of Serengeti National Park from a new perspective. After that, you can have a champagne breakfast in the bush and go game viewing in the morning. After lunch at the camp, go on an afternoon game drive with your local guide to look for zebras, hyenas, leopards, and other animals. Tonight, when you get back to your lodge, you can have a special dinner and tell more stories.

Day 9: Maasai traditions & a final game drive

On the last full day of your family’s fun-filled Africa trip, you can stay at a lodge in the Serengeti and enjoy the scenery, see more animals, and learn about Maasai customs and daily life. The whole family will learn about Maasai arts and crafts and local projects to protect the environment. They will also enjoy walks with the Maasai staff of the camp. After lunch, go on a farewell game drive in Serengeti National Park, where you can often see wildebeest, big groups of lions and cheetahs, and herds of giraffe and zebra. It’s an unforgettable show of Africa’s circle of life, right in front of your eyes! Tanzania’s magical sunsets are just as amazing, and you’ll get to see them at a farewell reception on the terrace of your lodge on your last night on safari. After that, you’ll have a festive farewell dinner and some real Maasai fun.

Day 10: Back to Arusha & journey home

Kilimanjaro International Airport is where the tour ends. After flying back to Arusha, seeing the Shanga community project, and eating lunch at the Cultural Heritage Center, the tour is over. Flights out of Africa don’t leave until late tonight, so we booked you a day room at the Meliá Arusha so you can repack and relax as you please. This evening, there is a free ride from the Meliá Arusha to Kilimanjaro International Airport.
