Mahogany Springs Lodge (Rates, Reviews, Photos & Videos)

One of the best places in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest belongs to Mahogany Springs Lodge. Nine spacious thatched cottages, all suites, front the lush jungles of the national park that is home to half of the endangered mountain gorillas in the world and gaze out over the pristine waters of the Munyanga River. The lodge creates a gorilla and birding safari base without many equals by fusing privacy, tranquility, landscape, and great comfort.

Number of Suites: 11 – Mahogany Springs Lodge

Mahogany Springs’ nine apartments are roomy, independent cottages with wide double doors and windows that let the outside in. There are a total of 11 rooms, including two family suites connected by a common living area. Private balconies in each suite provide views of the lush valley. Suites have terracotta mosaic-tiled showers in the bathrooms, minimalist wood beds with pristine white sheets, writing desks, and hardwood flooring. The Presidential Suite is perfect for families because it has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a big living room. The main structure has wraparound terraces that look out over the river and woodland, as well as lofty ceilings covered in thatch.

Sip wine at the striking oak bar or unwind in front of the two-sided fireplace while reading a book or playing a game from the library. The on-site chef creates a wide variety of exotic cuisines for the memorable meals, which are then served by the fireplace or on the patio. The pastry chef bakes fresh cakes and cookies for afternoon tea. There are also private bush breakfasts and riverside dinners offered.

Wildlife Viewing & Activities

Mahogany Springs makes a great home base for tracking gorillas. At the intersection of Uganda, Congo, and Rwanda, the resort has a view of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which is a component of the Virunga volcano series. The park, one of the planet’s most biologically varied areas, is home to more than half of the remaining mountain gorillas in the world. Meeting these calm animals up close is an unforgettable experience. To locate the habituated groups, which move about daily in the jungle, small groups set out with trackers. On occasion, lodge visitors may even see gorillas crossing the river below from the terrace. Additionally, there are 350 different bird species in Bwindi, making it the place on earth with the most bird species per square mile!

Many uncommon bird species visit Mahogany Springs every day thanks to its open terrain beside the river. In addition to guided birding tours and gorilla treks, visitors can also stop by a nearby Batwa pygmy community.

Some of the best mountain gorilla watching in Africa can be found in Bwindi. Eight additional primate species as well as colobus monkeys and chimpanzees may be seen. A rare sighting of an elephant, a large forest hog, or an African civet may occur. The season and wildlife migrations will determine the precise sightings.
