Detailed The Okavango Delta Family Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Enter into the Okavango Delta | 3 Nights
Okavango Delta, Botswana
Botswana’s Okavango Delta – Heaven on Earth
Take a small plane from Maun to the Shinde Private concession in the world’s largest inland delta, the stunning Okavango Delta. During the roughly 25-minute flight, you will be astounded to see how the desert changes before your eyes into flooded areas.
Your guides meet you at the airport and take you to camp in a 4×4 safari vehicle. You will receive a briefing on activities and safety throughout your stay over a small lunch and refreshing drink. Take a quick guided stroll in the late afternoon to expose kids to the sights, sounds, and scents of the African bush.
After returning to camp, enjoy a delicious dinner and a hot bucket shower under the stars to remove the dust from the day.
Day 2: Explore the Delta Waterways
After a small breakfast and coffee by the fire before daybreak, you set out to explore the bush and look for the local wildlife that roams the region.
After returning to the camp for lunch, the kids are entertained by their guides while the parents are left to enjoy a leisurely afternoon. In addition to learning traditional bush skills like tracking animals or recognizing bird calls, they will enjoy documenting the morning’s discoveries in their Bush Journals.
You will all go on a mokoro (dug-out canoe) journey in the late afternoon to explore the watery channels, keeping an eye out for the uncommon sitatunga, one of the most peculiar and elusive antelope in the world.
Later, you can talk about the day’s excitement while savoring a delectable dinner by the campfire.
Day 3: Learn the Skills of the Bush
Learning how to drive a 4×4 and going on a game drive through the wilderness take up the morning.
The kids will learn some of the guidelines and techniques needed to operate a rifle properly while the parents unwind in the afternoon. Your children can learn to shoot a pellet pistol under the careful and knowledgeable supervision of your guide.
Later, along the shores of lagoons and channels, or, for the more daring, from the mokoro, the kids can test their fishing prowess in the Okavango way.
Make the most of your final night in this stunning wilderness by sitting down to your farewell dinner this evening and falling asleep to the constant chorus of hippos.
Day 4: Travel Back to Maun
The whole family will participate in an enjoyable assessment of your vacation this morning. As you describe some of the talents you might need to survive in the bush, try to identify a few tracks, birds, and animals.
After receiving their Okavango Delta Certificate and clothing, the kids will be recognized as Young Explorer bushrangers.
You say goodbye to your guides and the camp staff before returning to Maun via light aircraft to catch your next flight.
