The Ultimate Okavango Delta Safari: A First-Timer’s Guide

Indulge in both classic safari activities and the height of luxury for the most unforgettable Okavango Delta safari. Envision a luxurious, art-filled, gourmet, and health-focused resort all to yourself. Put it in park. Starting with a movable tent camp that is both modest and elegant, your safari will culminate in a stay at Xigera, the most recent and opulent camp in the Delta. Everything about it is perfect for a bucket list.

A romantic front-row seat to all the action at Selinda Explorers is the first of three Botswana safari getaways that we have hand-picked. In the very middle of the Selinda Spillway, in a secluded spot, is this temporary camp. Enjoy first-class game viewing and the little things in life, like a private hammock and a bucket shower, for an adventure reminiscent of great explorers. After that, we’ll whisk you out to Duba Plains, where you can have a safari straight out of the Roaring Twenties, replete with a copper bath and private plunge pool. Finally, we have Xigera, the finest spot to revive weary minds, followed by opulent living, exquisite design, commissioned artworks, amazing culinary experiences, star-studded treehouse sleepouts, and sheer luxury. Here, you may spend your days adventuring around the delta’s waterways and game-rich floodplains in a glass-bottomed mokoro, on the lookout for endangered sitatunga, and snapping photos of reed frogs.

Detailed The Ultimate Okavango Delta Safari Itinerary

Nights 1 to 3: Selinda Spillway, feel like an explorer

A walk-through of Selinda Explorers Camp

At the Selinda Explorers camp, where you’ll spend the next three nights, your safari starts. The safari has a genuine, nostalgic vibe thanks to the beautiful Meru-style tents set amid the 1300-hectare Selinda Game Reserve in the northern Delta. Being a mobile camp also means you get a front-row view to the plentiful animals. Embark on an adventure through the Delta’s winding, papyrus-lined rivers and floodplains in a uniquely designed 4×4 game vehicle. You will savor your initial bucket shower of hot water in the evening. (There is absolutely no need to be concerned; they are both discreet and very effective.)

Nights 4 to 6: Northern Okavango Delta, step onto a film set

A Cessna Caravan, more often known as a bush taxi, will whisk you away for a brief flight to the northern Delta’s isolated Duba Plains. A National Geographic would be proud to publish this. Drift through three more unforgettable nights in the Okavango here in exquisite comfort. Buffalo herds in the Duba Plains can number over 600 strong. Elephants, big cats, and hippos will all be right there, and if you’re in the mood for an adrenaline rush, you can even arrange for a spectacular helicopter flip.

Nights 7 and 8: The heart of the Delta, jet set, go!

Discover Xigera Safari Lodge, Botswana

You’re about to visit Xigera, a picturesque enclave in the Okavango Delta where art and nature converge under the shade of fan palms. Made from over four thousand unique pieces of art commissioned from the most accomplished designers, artists, and craftspeople in Southern Africa, it is truly unique. You will be served gourmet meals and showered with attention for three unforgettable days while you encounter fascinating wildlife.
