1 Day Ngamba Chimpanzee Tour: A 24-Hour Ngamba Itinerary

This full-day adventure takes you to Ngamba Island, a world-renowned sanctuary that provides a secure home for orphaned chimpanzees rescued from illegal wildlife trading and habitat devastation. The 1 Day Ngamba Chimpanzee Tour begins with a breathtaking boat ride across Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest freshwater lake, leading to an interactive experience with the island’s chimpanzees.

During feeding sessions, visitors can observe chimpanzees engaging in their natural activities, including climbing, playing, and interacting with others. In addition to seeing chimpanzees, the tour includes an educational lecture regarding conservation initiatives, the history of the sanctuary, and its significance in Uganda chimpanzee conservation.

Detailed 1 Day Ngamba Chimpanzee Tour

You can see chimpanzees feeding when you take a boat trip to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary on Lake Victoria. In addition, you will be able to see birds, monitor lizards, and take pictures. Our boats depart at 9:00 am or 12:45 pm, and we offer both half-day and full-day excursions.

You will be taken to our visitor centre upon arrival at the sanctuary, where you will learn about the project, its background, and the plight of our residents. Both half-day and full-day day visits include a personal orientation with a chimpanzee carer and the opportunity to observe a chimpanzee feeding (full-day visitors will witness two feedings) from the visitors’ elevated platform area along the sanctuary fence’s edge.

To guarantee availability and prevent disappointment, we advise you to plan your 1 Day Ngamba Chimpanzee Tour well in advance. Reservations can be made by contacting kabirasafarico@gmail.com.

Activities

You will be able to see and feed chimpanzees, shop at the island gift shop, see birds, see other wildlife, swim on the equator, visit a nearby fishing village or just rest and sunbathe while you are there.

Joining the feeding crew is another way for our day guests to “get their hands dirty.” You have the chance to feed the chimpanzees from the platform right now. You can feed your favourite chimp and observe how they eagerly vie for your attention to feed them (this activity is subject to management exclusion and policies).

You can also have our freshly made on-site lunches, which cost between $10 and $15. Please be aware that due to the difficulty in managing the litter caused by personal belongings, it is not permitted to bring meals or drinks to the island. Since the establishment of Ngamba Island Sanctuary in 1998, Chimpanzee Trust has maintained an Environmental Management Policy and System, which the ban aims to enforce.
