A Beginner’s Guide to White Water Rafting on the Zambezi River
The Zambezi River, which flows downstream from Victoria Falls, is generally thought of as the world’s finest white water rafting river. Class 3–5 rapids and placid pools are features of the Zambezi River, a deep-channeled, high-volume river.
As one of the world’s top commercially run river segments, Batoka Gorge offers an unparalleled sensory experience. Skilled guides use huge rubber rafts that are launched from a point just below the Falls to navigate the rapids. A half-day, full-day, or two-day excursion is possible. Only the last thirteen rapids can be attempted when the river is high, which is usually between March and July. Between the months of June and February, when the water levels often drop, all 23 are typically passable. An extended cruise down the Zambezi is the way to go if you’re looking for the pinnacle of excitement.
After a long day of white-water rafting on the Zambezi, you’ll relax in the Batoka Gorge camp, where you may have some cold drinks, listen to the animals, and stare into the campfire. The wild adventure resumes when you get up and eat a hearty meal. For a small group on a road trip, this is ideal. Camps for the night are set up on the sandy banks of the river, right in the middle of the gorge.

The Zambezi River has substantial seasonal fluctuations in water level. There are three distinct rafting adventures available from Kabira Safaris & Tours Africa:
1. Low Water (July – January)
Our low-water rafting options include a half-day and a full-day adventure, in addition to our exclusive “Test the Best” package.
Our Low Water Rafting trips (morning departures) now include complimentary “Swimming under the Falls,” and we’ll even throw in some free photos from your rafting adventure!
2. High Water (February – June)
We can only provide half-day rafting trips when the water is very high.
